Hey Tino! Thanks for joining. No worries about schooling … I also obtained a graduate degree that in essence gave me the social affordances to be a healthcare clinician. We have to take the good bits we can use and move on. Keep us posted about schooling. I suspect that may lead to many good discussions with the community.
Take the good bits and move on that is good advice and that has kind of been my plan!
My frustrations with the school has been with a lot of the outdated narratives being taught, and a very structural viewpoint of the human body even though the biopsychosocial model is mentioned every now and then. It feels like we are being taught to think of the biospychosocial model as a dichtonomy as these seperate things from each other and that physios are like mechanics that would only work with the bio parts of humans.
I'm a former massage therapist+ a personaltrainer and a first year physio student from Finland.
Dr. Ray is one of the people that made want to keep educating myself and get in to physio school (even though physio school does not seem to offer a lot more than a license to practice when you graduate).
I hope to learn more from the community and maybe exchange ideas.
Hi everyone! Oliver here. I live in Virginia Beach, VA right now, but have been following Dr. Ray even since the time I was living in Japan, back in 2018. I'm not a healthcare practitioner, but am interested in general study, practice, and models in the field, since health is a universal issue. I do practice barbell strength training, which is how I discovered Dr. Ray's work.
TL;DR: Not a HCW (yet), here for the book club, yes I lift 😆
Hey Oliver! You aren't too far from me (Harrisonburg, VA). Hoping to make a beach trip later this summer when it's a bit warmer. I'll keep you posted and maybe we can meet up.
Book club - YES! Although I've been advised by my friend Kyle that I am not allowed to pick the books. 😂
My name is Jonathan Smith. I’m a physical therapist in South Alabama. Long time follower of Barbell Medicine and Clinical Athlete which is where I first discovered Dr. Ray. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed what I’ve learned in listening and reading the work from Dr. Ray and I especially admire his treatment philosophy of patient centered care and the “why” behind the intervention, as it relates to that specific person and their goals. Being in a rural area not known for its healthy population, I have an extreme passion for the impact of a person’s pain experience and for overall population health. I look forward to seeing Tame Pain explode and can’t wait to support it in any way I can. Dr. Ray and company has radically changed the why I take care of patients and has influenced those around me as well.
I currently have a contract with a hospital based outpatient physical therapy clinic. It's actually the same clinic my pal Jonathan is at. I have been working there as a tech and front office staff member since the beginning of school. I am in the flex program at St. Augustine so it's been great to be able to be in the environment of a physical therapy clinic, and interact with patients while also learning the academic side of things. I think I have been fortunate to have this experience to be able to see the differences of what I have learned in school and how that varies in the clinic.
Hey everyone! I am a current physical therapy student at the University of St. Augustine and I will be graduating in 2023. I was originally introduced to Dr. Ray's work and wisdom through the BBM community and I am looking forward to learning more through everyone here in the Tame Pain community!

Hey Cody! Thanks for joining the forum. Out of curiosity, what are your plans after graduation?
